Passport Application procedure and delivery timelines at Mumbai – Digital India

I applied for a passport re-issuance, every document submitted through online and Digi locker linked documents and finally fixed an appointment too Online, during my visit on the appointment scheduled date and time the place- Vikhroli Post office was slightly crowded though I reached 30 min earlier, it took roughly an hour to finish the submission process. During visit First they asked appointment acknowledgement paper at counter one (Though officially sms is sufficient), followed with verification of old passport first 4 pages, last two pages, Full Aadhar card (Plastic card not accepted), Pan card Xerox copies for verification with all Originals, no need to carry any self-passport size photography.

 After above steps moved to next counter, Photography for passport taken, Signature in form done, Thumb impressions taken, all documents scanned and uploaded in the system. Finally an acknowledgement issued, old passport invalidated by punching a hole. 

 Anything missing during initial document verification (as per document rules shown in appointment booking) you will be asked to bring relevant documents which will make your life miserable and running around. 

 Within 24 hours of form submission passport application acknowledgement and a file number informed through a SMS, then relevant documents are forwarded to Vikhroli Police for verification and received a SMS from Police informing police verification is initiated, and police personnel will visit in 3 to 4 days to your residence for verification. 

 My passport issuance timelines as follows: 

 PP application submission at Vikhroli on appointment date 21/02/24,

on 22/02 SMS received from Police station, based on a phone call from police personnel for visit, he visited house on 25/2 for verification. 

 26/2 Received a SMS informing case forwarded to SP office for review. 

 12/3 received SMS from Police SP office as Verification done and report submitted. 

 13/3 received a status update online as Passport is printed and couriered with reference number of speed post. 

 14/3/24 Passport is delivered by India post and received at hand.
